\n\tThe Junction Tour<\/span><\/strong> \n\tIl nome del gruppo deriva dal titolo del romanzo Manhattan Transfer pubblicato nel 1925 dallo scrittore statunitense John Dos Passos e dedicato alla New York degli anni venti, durante la cosiddetta \u201cera del jazz\u201d. La band inizialmente si occup\u00f2 prevalentemente di riproporre classici del jazz degli anni \u201840. La loro cover del 1977 di Chanson d\u2019amour, arriv\u00f2 al primo posto per tre settimane nel Regno Unito e per due settimane in Norvegia. La scalata al successo inizi\u00f2 con l\u2019album del 1975 The Manhattan Transfer, anche se fu un successo soprattutto europeo. Nel 1979, con l\u2019album Extension, il gruppo si afferm\u00f2 definitivamente e addirittura uno dei loro album successivi Vocalese fu candidato ai Grammy Awards in ben 12 categorie, primato superato solo da Thriller di Michael Jackson.
